Fossils is a series of artworks made using casts of man-made jetsam collected from river banks and beaches which are arranged to form fossil like structures which imagine the legacy that man is leaving in the geological record.

The idea for the series originated from a conversation I had with a geologist on the Isle of Arran in Scotland, during which we discussed how the Anthropocene age would leave a layer of rocks filled with the remains of the plastic waste which is dumped into the oceans every year.  In effect plastic fossils would replace organic fossils in the same way life in the oceans is being replaced with plastic waste.

The artworks in this series imagine how these fossils might look to the geologists who might discover them millions of years from now and question what they will make of our pollution of the oceans.
