Yarn is a response to Phoebe Ho’s first-hand life experience of fast-growing metropolitan cities. Each vessel has been bounded with yarn when soft, deforming, bending and pushing the porcelain to achieve an elegant, sophisticated, and minimalistic resolution. The project aims to stimulate conversations about growing up in deeply urban environments, how they shape us and overlays the topic with themes of simplicity and togetherness. The vases visually encapsulate the stranger, less familiar, and more candid aspects of what it means to exist as a human. The marks and grooves punctuate the face of each vase while yarn binds and bundles vases together, depicting ideas of relationship and connection. Phoebe Ho, a Hong Kong designer, focuses on ceramic and homeware design.
