I was inspired to make this project during the lockdown summer of 2020 when I was constantly noticing rubbish everywhere. It made me question what we value as rubbish and how easily we throw things away. At the time I was writing my dissertation about the sentimental value of clothing and was reflecting on how little we value clothing and accessories due to the growth of fast fashion.
Through a lot of trial and error I developed my own agar biomaterial in my kitchen to make a collection of bags that are biodegradable, I drew inspiration from childhood photos and clothing for the designs. I wanted to offer a playful and fun take on sustainability, and challenge the brown, boring and sensible associations sustainable accessories can have.
